JULIAN CHRISTOPHER SAMPSON
PB: Jared Padalecki
Julian Christopher Sampson is a seventeen year old student at Donovan Academy. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and his birthday is November 5th. He currently dates Lyla Michelle Wynters, and is straight as a nail. After she managed to break through Donovan's grip on him, Julian has been a firm supporter and member of the Equitas.
During his first years at the Academy, Julian was ruled by his own grief and anger. Due to Donovan's hypnotism he generally acted arrogantly and coldly towards others, and he was easily angered. He considered those of the students (and in certain cases even the teachers) who didn't support Purist's agenda as traitors to their kind, and he would treat them accordingly. Julian has always been fundamentally loyal, and even though the ideas Donovan had planted in his mind was fake, he felt a strong sense of responsibility towards the family who had taken him in. Thus he would generally do anything they asked of him. Even so, not even Donovan's hypnotism could change the grief and guilt he felt in regards to his mother's death.
Needles to say, Julian's personality changed after Lyla managed to snap him out of the hypnotism he had been placed under. As a child Julian had always been fairly social and outgoing, and would easily put his trust in others. After having been manipulated by the very people he trusted the most, Julian found it hard to go back to being the carefree boy he had once been, however. Donovan's manipulation made him grow up in some sense, and left him as a more thoughtful and mature person.
Ever since he was young, Julian's biggest problem was his temper. To say that he was a hothead would be an understatement, and he would often let his emotions override his better judgment. After he realized what his anger could do combined with his power, Julian began to work on controlling his emotions. The notion that he had inadvertently been the cause of his own mother's death horrified him, and still makes him feel as a criminal of sorts. Even though he still easily becomes angry, he tries to deal with it differently these days. He's learned to suppress negative emotions and save his rage for the times when it can have a constructive purpose, rather than a destructive one. His deepest fear is that this control will someday slip from him, and that he might end up hurting someone again.
These days Julian is easily a more open and relaxed person than what he has been for years. But he has also learned to be careful, and is more hesitant to trust strangers than what he was as a child. He is very thoughtful, and will often think and rethink decisions he has already made, finding it hard to let the past be the past. Julian is observant and quite bright, but occasionally finds it hard to trust himself fully despite the fact that he normally seems confident and determined. Once he has made up him mind about something, it is extremely difficult to get him to change his stance, however. Even though he knows that his alliance with the Equitas has made him some powerful enemies, he always tries make the choices he considers to be right.
Julian Christopher Sampson was born on the 5th of November in Chicago, Illinois. By the time he came into the world his mother had been trying to get pregnant for years, and had almost given up on the hope of having child at all. As a consequence Julian received the full loving attention of both of his parents while he was growing up, something which left him slightly spoiled and very strong-willed.
According to his parents Julian was a fearless child. He was the sort of toddler no one would dare to leave alone for more than two minutes at a time. His father used to joke that even if he left his son a padded room with no sharp edges tied to his play pen, he would still find something potentially dangerous to pick up, touch or put into his mouth. Even so, he never got seriously injured aside from the mandatory scratches and bruises that any healthy child should get while growing up.
Seeing as he never had any siblings to contend with, Julian grew up being used to having things his own way. As he grew older this would lead to him and his father arguing all the more often. Julian's mother would always point out that the two of them were far too similar to each other, and since they were both equally stubborn neither was willing to back down if they thought the other was wrong about something.
Julian can't even remember what it was they had been fighting about the day his world fell into pieces. He had been fourteen years old, and his parents was the most unfair people who had ever walked the planet. At some point or another his father had thought he was getting too hotheaded during their argument, and had pushed him to the floor with a warning to cool down. If Julian could go back in time, if there was any way to change what happened next, he would do it. As it were he got to his feet again, glaring angrily at his father when his mother placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. He never meant to hurt her. Truthfully Julian never meant to hurt anyone at all. But when he had pushed her away, something happened. He still wakes up certain nights, soaked with sweat picturing the crumpled shape of his mother lying in a lifeless heap on the floor of their living room with a dark red halo slowly spreading around her head.
The death of his mother destroyed Julian. The grief and guilt of what he had done nearly drove him insane. When Vladimir Donovan showed up at their house a few weeks later, offering a place for him at his school, his father saw no other option than to agree. Julian's grief and anger made him easy to hypnotize, and from the moment he arrived at the Academy, he was in the palm of the Donovan's.
It was only through the help of Lyla Michelle Wynters that Julian was finally able to see through the lies he had been told by the family who had treated him as one of their own. Their betrayal was hard for him to accept, but in the end he realized that he had been nothing more than a pawn to them. Now he's set on making sure that his abilities are never abused again. He joined the Equitas just a few short weeks after the holidays ended, even though he knows that it will anger the Donovan's.
Kinetic energy absorbation:
Julian's ability enables him to absorb kinetic energy and use it to increase his strength, stamina, speed and recuperation abilities to a superhuman level. This ability is entirely subconscious, and occurs whether Julian wants it to or not. Kinetic energy is the energy an object or a person contains due to its motion. This means that Julian absorbs the energy of any blow his struck by, regardless of whether it is a physical blow, a bullet or the cutting energy from a blade or a knife. Because of this it is extremely hard harm him physically.
Despite this there are several disadvantages to his ability. He has already shown himself to be susceptible to hypnosis and he lacks protection against other mentally based attacks as well. In addition to this his power does have an upper limit, and he can be damaged by a powerful enough blow. If he's recuperation ability doesn't increase in time to handle the damage of the blow, he could be seriously injured. Julian is in no way immune towards the pain of the attacks he suffers either, and this could in certain situations cause him to black out from the strain. If he has already absorbed energy his ability to endure pain will also increase.
If he is kept from absorbing energy, for example by being levitated by a telekinetic, he would be no stronger than an average human. Lately he has also discovered that he can use the energy he absorbs to power energy blasts. This is a part of his ability which he has little control over as of yet, and which comes with major disadvantages. If he is not careful he might end up draining not only the energy he has absorbed from others, but his own as well. If this happens he would be left exhausted, fatigued and helpless to defend himself.
THE END =)
"I could have sworn I put it here," Hugo muttered rummaging through the top drawer of his desk while being very aware of the sound of his father's tapping foot comming from over by the door. "How did you manage to lose your wand Hugo?" Ron sounded vaguely amused, something his son didn't appreciate much. His father was hardly one to talk, only two days ago he had forgotten to put the family brooms back in the shed after a Quidditch game, and they had found them drifting over the town hall the next day. They had even been issued with an offical warning after that from the Ministry of Improper use of Magical Artifacts.
"I haven't lost it," Hugo said firmly, "I've merely misplaced it." His father cuckled and as irritating as it was Hugo felt a little relieved that Ron had followed him upstairs rather than his mum. Hermione would probably insist on buying him another one of her sceduels as if a charmed note book would get him more organized. He'd already misplaced the five she'd given him this year. "You better hurry though," Ron said cheerfully. "If we don't leave soon you're going to miss the train, and how are you going to get to Hogwarts then?" His father paused, but Hugo knew what was coming. "Did I ever tell you about the time your uncle and I..."
"...drove a bewitched car to Hogwarts and crashed in into the Whopping Willow. Only about a million times, and it's not helping me find my wand," he said rolling his eyes. Just then he heard another set of feet coming up the stairs. Wincing he mentally prepared himself for his mother's 'helpful' suggestions. Instead his sister poked her head inside his room."I found it Hugo," she said, waving the offending wand for him to see. Hugo drew a relieved breath and smiled at her. "Where was it Sherlock?" he asked curiosly, and had the joy of seeing his sister's face light up in a smile. "Elementary my dear Watson," she retorted, "you left it on the refrigerator after getting your cereal. It's not good to be as tall as you are you know. You've always got your head in the clouds." Hugo was just about reply when a honking sound from outside chased away all his thought of bickering with his sister.
Sharing an alarmed glance with his father he began to hurry towards the stairs. "Oh no! Mum's got ahold of the car. How late are we?" Ron looked a little pale himself. "Really late..." he answered, fumbling with his wrist watch. It was going to be an interesting drive to King's Cross Station. It usually was.
