ARIANA MARIE LAMKIN
PB: Kesha "Ke$ha" Sebert
Ariana Marie Lamkin is twenty five years old, and is a teacher at the Academy; she's one of the rebel Equitas, having heard about what the Donovan Academy had been doing before the first rebellion, and wants to make sure that nothing like that can ever be permitted again. She is bisexual and on the side works for gay rights and support groups. Ariana teaches art and music, including the band class.
Ariana is sweet to everyone, trying to lend a kind word or shoulder to cry on for anyone who needs it. She's especially kind to people who others turn away from. She's tough skinned, willing to jump into a fight for a friend or someone she cares about.
While she's sweet, she posses a dark side. It is violent, even more so then she is. She slightly suffers from a case of bi polar disorder, though unlike traditional cases where the mood swings vary from emotion to emotion, it only varies from the normal Ariana to a mean, violent one. It is almost a case of MPD, but there has been no discussion of it.
Nomally, though, she's spontaneous and crazy, often going out of her way to be a bit outrageous and tends to wear things other teachers would consider student like, and even the students sometimes find her way of dressing funny. She is put off by people who are narrow minded, and though she used to try and change them, she has given up on that.
Because of what her power lets her see, she tries and has a positive outlook on life and art and music, but sometimes her darker side wins over.
Ariana was born in New York City, and lived on the Lower East Side. Her parents weren't rich by any means, but Ariana liked to think she was. At the age of seven, her parents adopted her foster brother James. Over time, the two of them formed a close bond, and Ariana became very protective of him. Her grandfather came to live with them a year or so after they adopted James, after divorcing his wife.
When she was sixteen, her power manifested, and she saw her first spirit in the basement of her apartment building. It was her grandfather, who'd died earlier that week. Ariana had been very close to him, and the basement of the apartment building was where she would often talk to him about things or read passages from her stories while he did the family's laundry. She immeadiately experienced his death, a heart attack. She experienced everything that he did--a pain running through her arm, then her chest exploding in pain, and through her haze of pain she saw the man, of about seventy, and the pain stopped. He was still there, and followed her when she tried running. It was then she realized that he was waiting for a command from his "master". She sent him away.
For the next three years, Ariana became very secluded. She was, in secret, learning how to control her powers. She learned to deal with it and keep her secret under wraps.
When she graduated high school, she went on to get a degrees in art and musical theater, and taught at some public schools until on day she was accidentally placed by her Teach for America people in a private school. Her outlandish spotaneous style of teaching art and even sometimes music caused her to be noticed by the Donovan Academy, as did their finding out about her gifts, and she was brought in as one of the new teachers.
Ariana can see the dead. She can't turn it on and off, and this happens randomly. When she concentrates, she can even control the spirits. When she is controlling the spirits, they do as she says, having no mind of their own. Her commands can be telepathic or spoken. Unlike some other people who have control over the dead, she cannot summon a spirit from a random place. She has to be in a place that has a spirit's imprint on it, or her power is useless. She can control the spirit for a maximum of eight hours, and when they are restless for a maximum of four. Her maximum amount of spirits she can control at once is not specifically determined, but the most she's ever done is five. Ariana can also turn the spirits from harmless to a virtual poltergeist, making them restless and violent. Keeping the spirits under her control for long requires alot of concentration, and when they are summoned, the usual things happen when a spirit is present in the room--a cold chill and the feeling of another presence.
Her ability also links her mind to the spirits she's summoned, and she sees their final moments from first person view when she summons them and when she does, she feels whatever pain they did during their death.
If Ariana is not in a place where there is an imprint of a spirit, her power is useless. When she summons a ghost, her mind link to them often leaves her vulnerable while she is reliving their final moments. Her power only works when she is still in the place. She can't, for example, summon a ghost from somewhere a mile away from where she is. The imprint has to be within a three block radius of her. Also, causing a spirit to become restless and destructive to her will causes her mind to become restless as well because of the psychic link she shares with the spirits she raises. If Ariana pushes the limits of her powers, she faces the risks of either A. Driving herself insane B. Dying
Ariana does alot of abstract art, and though she can't play an instrument, has a good appreciation for music and also loves theater.
Ariana had gathered almost six ghosts, one more then her old maximum amount of five. She'd been saving herself from whatever fate would await her if she riled too many at once--death or insanity, maybe both? She didn't know and didn't want to find out. But as she continued to kill the soldiers who came to her, and when Vulcan's lasers and Fade's claws had exterminated more, she fell to her knees, their deaths hitting her full force.
Pain. For a few seconds that felt like eternities, that's all there was. When Augure looked around her, she saw almost ten, maybe more ghosts around her--all awaiting her command. Before she had time to contemplate, four soldiers noticed the girl kneeling on the ground. Panting, she riled two and sent them at the soldiers, not able to avoid one of their gunshots, which landed in her arm, and she cried out again. This was worse then getting stabbed, the pain was worse, but standing, gripping her arm and pushing the pain back, she riled the rest of the ghosts--eight of them left, since the other two were already riled.
Her mind, for a moment, became completely unhinged. It was like opening a locked box, she could see all the dark fantasies of the Other World blending in with her reality, and she felt a bunch of tiny pops in her eyes, the broken blood vessels staining the white red. Ariana let out a scream as two other deaths hit her--these ones more peaceful then the previous, she was no longer specifically commanding the spirits on how to kill, only to kill. She knew the real Ariana was there somewhere, and she, struggling, severed the links between her mind and what was left of the multiple ghosts. Her own mind clicked back again, the dark Pandora's Box closed.
Ariana tried walking, but her now red stained right hand fell from the bullethole in her left arm, the wound still bleeding a bit, and with a soft sigh, she passed out.
